System software version 7.1 can be installed on all Macintosh models except the Macintosh 128K, Macintosh 512K, and Macintosh XL. System 7.1 requires at least 2 MB of RAM and a hard disk.
You can use the Installer program on this disc to upgrade to System 7.1 without using floppy disks.
Before you install System 7.1, follow two important steps:
1. Make backup copies of your System Folder and any important data files on your hard disk.
2. Use the Compatibility Checker to make sure your disks contain no incompatible programs. To do this, double-click the Compatibility Checker icon in the Before You Install folder.
To install System 7.1, follow these steps:
1. Double-click the Installer icon in the System 7.1 Installer folder.
2. When the Welcome screen appears, press Return.
3. When the Installer dialog box appears, make sure the name of your startup disk appears next to the hard disk icon. If necessary, click Switch Disk until the correct name appears.
4. Click Install.
5. When the installation is completed, restart your computer.
